THE MINES AWARENESS TRUST
Mine Detection Dogs

MAT started to train specialised Mine Detection Dogs (MDD) at the International Mine Action Training Centre (IMATC) in Nairobi, Kenya in February 2006. This was when The 'Dirk Ridge' Dog Centre was set up.

Since the summer of 2008 some of the MAT MDD's have commenced work in Rwanda and The Sudan. They have now Quality Assured (QA) hundreds of thousands of square meters of previously landmine affected areas.

MDD's are becoming more of an essential asset to Mine Action organisations as they are affective, swift and hard working. The best part about this extremely important job is that to a dog, it is all a game!
