Kosovo De-mining

MAT has been active in Kosovo since August 1999, when the first Mine Risk Education (MRE) programme was run. Since 2003, MAT has been conducting survey and clearance operations in Kosovo. 


Since 2003 MAT EOD Technical Survey and clearance projects have been running in Kosovo. These are projects where surveying and verifying or discrediting suspected areas have taken place throughout the province.

In 2006 and 2007 MAT was contracted by the UK’s Ministry of Defence (MOD) to train the Kosovo Protection Corps (KPC) Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams in level 2 and 3 Technical Survey. 


2008 / 2009 sees organic clearance and survey operations continuing in Kosovo, in accordance with the Office for the Kosovo Protection Corps Coordinator (OKPCC) EOD sections Mine Action Plan. Current clearace operation in Kosovo are funded by UNMAS and No More Landmines.

MAT continue to support the KPC team’s transition into the new Kosovo Security Force (KSF) to ensure a smooth move from mainly de-mining activities to more EOD based action teams. Currently MAT is delivering an Explosive, Transportation and Handling course to all KPC EOD teams
