THE MINES AWARENESS TRUST
Kenya
The 'Dirk Ridge' Dog Centre is held in the IMATC in Nairobi, Kenya where the MAT MDD's are trained.
The dogs and their handlers are trained by the MAT MDD Specialist in order for them to be deployed to Mine Action projects. To date we have deployed three dogs to Rwanda and eight dogs to The Sudan. There are currently four dogs at the Dog Centre. They are in the middle stages of being trained as Quality Assurance (QA) dogs.

His handler is Kenyan, Lance Corporal Morris.
The Guernsey Post kindly donated £1,000 earlier this year towards the upkeep of Sapper. Both MAT and Sapper are extremely grateful for this!

Demi - A 38kg Female Belgium Shepherd

Senna - A 30kg Female Dutch Shepherd

Atti - A 26kg Female Belgium Shepherd

Atti is being trained as an UXO dog, a concept MAT is working on. It is the idea that dogs can be used in Battle Area Clearance (BAC) situations when debris of ammunitions, UXO's are left on the surface of the ground after conflict.
